Laboratory Manager - Pathology Services - South Dublin
Our Client offers a wide range of diagnostic pathology tests and patient services from their Dublin-based laboratory to the Irish healthcare sector. Through their dedicated clinical, scientific, customer support and logistics staff our Client can offer a complete laboratory solution.
To manage the operational and instructional activities in the laboratory (excluding Cytology and Molecular laboratories), ensuring that all laboratories have qualified and trained staff.
To ensure that the laboratory adheres to national guidelines.
Develops and recommends new laboratory tests and coordinates and maintains research activities.
Supervising, training and directing the day-to-day activities of Laboratory staff.
Utilisation of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), including performance monitoring, liaising with IT support as required.
Ensures all procedures are documented, updated as required, implemented and sustained.
Liaising with the Quality Manager to ensure the laboratory meets all ISO 15189 standards required by INAB.
Liaising with the Quality Manager to ensure the laboratory meets all NSS standards as outlined in the NSS QA Document.
Liaising with the Medical Director on Training and Education within the laboratory and promote the education programs of the Laboratory.
Compiles statistics on a quarterly basis for the NSS and other bodies.
Recommends new equipment for the laboratory.
Analyzing data to monitor performance and plan improvements on demand.
Providing detailed metrics to the CEO for the Laboratory on a regular basis.
Identifying improvements and/or new experiments that better meet course and national professional objectives.
Overseeing staffing and rota management.
Hiring process and annual performance review Hires, reviews, supervises, and terminates assigned employees
Monitors projects with regard to progress and cost.
Assists in design of new and/or remodelled facilities.
Serving in a financial management role by providing justification for requisitions and working with vendors to obtain optimal pricing.
Keeping abreast of scientific advances and new technologies and how they may benefit the Laboratory and assuring facility is fit for purpose.
Direct reports consist of Laboratory staff and the Sample Reception Manager
All other duties as assigned by CEO.
To select equipment for the laboratory.
To authorise patient results.
To hire staff for the laboratory.
To communicate to nurses, GPs and consultants regarding patient results
BSc in Scientific discipline with relevant qualification in cytology blood science.
MSc in Medical Laboratory Science
Management related Qualification
Current registration as Fellow with Academy of Medical Laboratory Science.
7+ years experience in a medical laboratory since qualifying as a Medical Scientist, two years of which were spent in a senior post.
Requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Knowledge of Quality management
Knowledge of relevant standards and regulations, in particular ISO 15189
Ability to work in a team environment
Salary is €65-85K dependent on experience
On-Call service which amounts to circa 5K annually.
