Principal Scientist - Biopharma - Waterford


Our client is a leading Contract Research Organization (CRO), working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device sectors.

Job Description

This person will be responsible for leading a team to establish a wide range of new service offerings in Biopharmaceutical test area as well as performing a wide range of assays to support current client projects. 

Experience with analytical development; validation and data interpretation is required. All work is performed in a GMP environment.  

The position will involve client contact as well as the ability to lead client specific and internal projects to a successful conclusion.

Development, validation and execution of new Bio-analytical assays as well as other biochemical tests. 

Completion of specific technological projects and writing up/reviewing the results of these projects accurately, confidentially and on time for the clients.

Development and leading of projects for technical improvements within the department.

Support/lead investigations and technical issues to resolution in a timely manner.

Present project work at conferences/workshops and promote the Brand.

Principal Scientists are permitted to sign all technical documents within the company provided their training in this task is successfully completed.  

This includes laboratory reports, SOPs, protocols, investigation reports and any other documentation issued.

Signing out customer work from the analysts.

Providing cover for other members of staff as required and for taking part in the company’s weekend rota and/or overtime schedule.

Ensuring that all documentation is completed on time, accurately and legibly.

Responsible for their training, keeping their training records up to date and initiating training where possible when free from work.

Handling any customer related queries where necessary and liaising with the team to problem solve these queries if needed.

As with all members of staff this person is responsible for ensuring that customers’ requirements are fully met and in so doing will be flexible to work in any area of the business as is required.

Responsible for direct communication with clients in an efficient and appropriate manner.

To liaise closely with Management to ensure that resources are available to guarantee that testing activities are completed to customer’s timelines.

The review of test methods for quotation purposes.

Continually liaising with management, customers and other members of the organisation on any relevant problem areas or enhancements to the business.


Master’s degree in biochemistry/analytical chemistry with a minimum 6 years’ experience is desirable.  

PhD or proven scientific writing to a publication standard is desirable.

Extensive knowledge of bioanalytics.

Good team player, organised, accurate, have strong documentation skills.

Passionate about quality and customer service.

Good communication skills both internally and externally.
