Resident Engineer - M&E - Dublin

Our client provides mechanical and electrical consultancy services to the residential, commercial, micro-electronic, healthcare, municipal, educational, sports & leisure, high tech and pharmaceutical sectors.

Job Description

The primary duty of the resident engineer is to inspect the progress and quality of the Mechanical & Electrical services works to determine that they are being executed in accordance with the contract documents.

Required to be present on site / site office in Dublin South every week day and this presence is intended to assist the Mechanical and Electrical consultant in the discharge of the engineer’s duties of observations / inspections of the work.

The RE shall have no authority to relieve the Contractor of any of their duties or obligations under the Contract (i.e. deliver works on time, to tender cost, to required quality and specific standards, i.e. self inspection) nor to order any work involving delay or any extra payment by the Client nor to make any variation of or in the Works.

The resident engineer will seek quality plans, installation method statements, working drawings, test and inspection plans etc. from the contractors.

The resident engineer will condemn (followed by engineer’s later written confirmation) work which does not conform (non compliant) to the requirements of the drawings or specification or good practice / installation guidelines.

The resident engineer will produce defect report sheet where required and a quality report on a weekly basis on inspections / observations of that week.

It is not necessary for the resident engineer / clerk of works to be present when the work is been done as he simply conveys the direction and does not say how it is to be carried out.

The resident engineer shall attend the weekly site co-ordination meeting.

The role of resident engineer is not Mechanical and Electrical co-ordination. This will be carried out by the main contractor and Mechanical and Electrical sub-contractor’s agents.

The resident engineer will advise the Architect / PQS regarding the issue of instructions in relation to any proposed variation for the installation and will confirm these instructions to the contractor subject to approval by the Client.
